Ben!

cool_ben_thumb.png I finally got to meet my seven-month-old nephew, Benjamin, for the first time! In fact, it was the first time anyone in my family has met Ben, so we were all pretty excited. Jessica and I took a few days off from work to spend a long weekend in Lubbock. Jonathan brought his wife, Berenice and seven-year-old step-son, Joseph — we haven’t seen any of them in a couple of years as the Navy keeps Jon tied up pretty well.

Ben didn’t want to be held by any of us “strangers” at first, but it wasn’t long before he felt comfortable enough to allow it. Oh, and he has the best facial expressions, too! He can really work those eyebrows and his grin. I haven’t been around very many babies (other than out in public), but he seemed to be very easy-going and didn’t get fussy once. The few times he started to get upset, it was easily fixed.

Joseph and I had a pretty good time, too. He was perfectly-behaved, didn’t get into any trouble, and was very respectful and polite. Good job, Joseph! I even taught him a proper “cool” handshake, and he caught on quick.

We all spent most of our time hangin’ around and enjoying each others’ company. Mom made great food and Sam bought some beer. Cliff even came over one evening and had a cigar with us out in the alley. Jon, Berenice, Joseph, and Ben all came to my in-laws one evening and enjoyed steaks off the grill, beer, and a dice game.

We don’t get to see Jon and his crew very often, so I’m happy we could make it work — I think we all had a great time, and Ben was a lot of fun for everyone.
